Things You'll Need
Instructions
Purchase the denim pieces that you will use to make your Desigual dress at a thrift store. The two key pieces for the dress will be a workable skirt and bodice piece that can be sewn together. These two pieces should fit you well as they will act as the basis for the rest of the dress. Purchase other denim skirts, jeans and buttons of different washes and with different features to use as details for your dress. For instance, frilled denim skirts make a great addition to your knock-off Desigual dress.
Put on the denim item that you will be using for the bodice. If you are using the bodice of a pre-manufactured dress, measure the spot where the top meets your hip bone and cut an inch below this mark. Otherwise, remove the bottom seam from a vest or denim shirt to allow you to attach it to the skirt.
Cut the waist band from the denim skirt you will be using for the skirt portion of the dress.
Turn the bodice and skirt portions of the dress inside out and pin them together with a one-inch seam. Pinch and pin portions of the skirt, if necessary, to make it fit the bodice properly. Sew these two pieces together then turn the dress right side out again.
Cut the interesting details from the additional denim pieces. Zippers, pocket details, strips of buttons and seams are all used to make the original Desigual denim dresses.
Pin the details to random portions of the front and back of the dress. Place patches of different washes next to each other to create a contrasting effect. Pin frills to the bottom or hip portion. Add zippers, pockets and seams at random. Use images of the different Desigual denim dresses as a guide for placement or express your creativity by placing them wherever you like.
Sew the details onto the dress with your sewing machine.
