How to Make an Impression in Velvet

If you want to revitalize old velvet clothes or design new velvet projects, you can make impressions on the material with a few simple steps. Rubber stamp designs leave clear images, and you can imprint designs on velvet using other mediums such as lace or wire trim. Experiment with different materials before you try imprinting on a valuable piece of velvet.

Things You'll Need

  • Velvet fabric
  • Spray water bottle
  • Iron
  • Unmounted rubber stamp

Instructions

      Find or make a rubber stamp design to imprint on the piece of velvet.

      Lay the piece of velvet over the rubber stamp and mist the velvet. The side of the fabric you mist does not matter.

      Set an iron to dry wood setting or the lightest setting your iron has.

      Press firmly down on the velvet for 30 seconds. Do not to move the fabric while doing this or the image could blur.

    • 5

      Press the design again for 20 seconds if the fabric is not dry.
