How to Make a Blankie

A homemade blankie or lovey is a thoughtful and useful gift for a baby shower or a gift for any baby or toddler.Typically, these types of blankets are made of soft, cuddly fabrics to inspire the little one to nap or go to bed at a decent time. Baby blankets aren't cheap, particularly if you know a lot of expectant mothers and have invitations to multiple showers. Making a baby blanket on your own is an economical way to save money and provide a meaningful gift. Fleece is a wise choice for baby blankets since it is soft, lightweight and machine washable.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the fleece fabric to ensure that it is cut evenly on both narrow ends. If not, draw a straight line on the crooked ends with chalk and a yardstick. Cut along the chalk line with scissors.

    • 2

Cut fringe by making snips in the narrow ends of the fabric with your scissors. Make 4-inch slits approximately 1/2 inch apart all away across both narrow ends of the fleece.

    • 3

Grab two pieces of the fringe and make a simple knot in it. Do this close to the fabric that is not cut. Repeat this all the way across the narrow ends of the fleece. The blankie is ready for the baby or toddler.
