Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take your bust measurement with a measuring tape. Hold the measuring tape at the front of your chest and wrap it around your chest. Record your chest size to the closest inch.
Select a pattern, fabric and buttons. Look for patterns with titles such as "Easy to Sew" if you are a beginning sewer. Read the back of the pattern for the correct amount of fabric for your measurements. The pattern need not specify flannel as the material. Choose your buttons for the shirt and any other sewing supplies.
Set up your materials. Wash, dry and press the flannel. Clear a large flat surface for your cutting and sewing. Gather all materials and thread your sewing machine. Cut out the pattern paper at the correct size. Optionally, press the pattern so that it lies completely flat.
Cut your fabric. Line up the fabric with the paper pattern, following the layout that comes with the pattern, and cut along the pattern until all sections of the shirt are cut out.
Pin the fabric and sew the seams of the shirt. Pin the sections of the shirt with the wrong sides facing and carefully sew the pieces together, following the pattern's step-by-step instructions.
Sew the buttons and buttonholes. Using your machine's button-holer, make the correct number of holes according to the pattern, and sew on the buttons to the adjacent side of the shirt.
Try on the pajama shirt to ensure the correct fit and make any necessary changes. Clip any loose threads.
