Instructions

    • 1

Draw a 3-inch by 4.25-inch rectangle. Place a cup along one 3-inch edge. Line up the edges and draw an arch to round off the top of the pattern. If more than .75 inches shows on either side, slide the cup up higher.

    • 2

Cut out the pattern, keeping the lines straight.

    • 3

Fold the main fabric in half. Trace around the pattern. Cut through two layers of fabric. This is for one mitt. Cut two for the second mitt. Cut four more pieces from the lining.

    • 4

Place two pieces of the lining fabric together, right sides facing. On one side, mark a dot 2 inches from the bottom edge. Mark a second dot .25 inches from the bottom edge.

    • 5

Beginning at the corner, sew around the curve, stopping at the first dot. Back-tack to secure the thread. Sew the last .25-inch below the second dot and secure the thread. This leaves a 2-inch opening on one side. Trim around the seam, but do not trim the opening.

    • 6

Place two pieces of the main fabric together, right-sides facing. Sew a slightly narrower seam around the curve, from edge to edge. Do not leave an opening on the side. Trim around the seam.

    • 7

Turn the outer mitt right-side out. Slip the outer mitt inside the mitt lining, right-sides facing together.

    • 8

Sew the edges together. Pull the outer mitt through the opening in the lining. The two pieces will be joined end to end with the seam inside. Push the lining into the outer mitten.

    • 9

Sew a casing by stitching .25 inches plus the width of the elastic, from the top edge of the mitt. Sew it all the way around.

    • 10

Measure the baby's wrist and cut the elastic to fit or cut 4.25 inches for each mitt. Fasten the safety pin to the end of the elastic and thread it through the opening in the casing. Remove the safety pin and sew the ends together. Sew the lining opening together.
