Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut a 12-inch square from lightweight woven cotton. Fold the square in half diagonally and cut along the fold.
Finish the short edges of the square, either by trimming them with pinking shears or zigzag stitching or serging along the edge. Sew so that the needle goes just off the fabric when it makes the right side of the stitch.
Cut a 3-foot length of double-fold bias tape. Fold it in half and mark the center with a pin. Fold the long side of the fabric triangle in half and mark the center of the long edge with another pin.
Fold the bias tape around the long edge of the fabric triangle, matching the centers. Pin the tape in place. A length of tape will stick out on each side of the long edge. You will later use those lengths to tie the kerchief in place on your head.
Set the sewing machine on a straight stitch with a standard stitch length. Sew from one end of the tape to the other, stitching close to the edge with the double fold. Be sure to catch both sides of the folded tape in the seam. Remove the pins as you sew.
