How to Take in a Skirt Without Sewing

If you need to take in a skirt quickly but you do not have the time or equipment to sew the skirt, there's an alternative method you can use to take it in at the side seams. By fusing a piece of permanent hem tape to the fabric, you can hold the skirt seams in place and get a great fit in a jiffy without sewing a single stitch.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the skirt and dry it without using fabric conditioner, if it has not been cleaned recently.

    • 2

Turn the skirt inside out and try it on. Hold the fabric where you want it to be when you take it in.

    • 3

Mark in chalk how far over you're holding the fabric, on both sides of the seams.

    • 4

Seam rip the side seams and lay hem tape against the underside of one half of the seam allowance along the chalk line then press it in place.

    • 5

Lay another piece of hem tape on top of the half of seam allowance you just ironed then lay the remaining half of the seam allowance fabric along the chalk line on top of the second piece of hem tape and iron it in place.

    • 6

Trim off any excess fabric that hangs over the edge of the hem tape.
