How to Make a Detachable Train for a Formal Dress

Some formal dress designs are extremely popular. This popularity can create problems for women who want to stand out in the crowd and be the center of attention. You can alter your formal dress by adding a detachable tulle train to add a touch of elegance that will set you apart from anyone else that happens to be wearing the same dress design. Detachable trains are ideal for formal dresses because they are easy to remove for dancing, which is something you are likely to attempt while you are wearing your dress in most circumstances.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the length between the waistline and where you would like the bottom of the train. Cut two pieces of tulle the length of this measurement. Lay one piece of tulle on top of the other piece.

    • 2

Stitch the two pieces of tulle together along the top edge of the fabric. Grab the top right corner of the fabric and pull it to the middle of the fabric.

    • 3

Pin the fold in place. Grab the top left corner of the fabric and pull it to the middle of the fabric. Pin the tulle in place and stitch a line across the pinned folds. Remove the pins and set them aside.

    • 4

Divide your waist measurement in half and measure this length of ribbon. Cut the ribbon and fold the top horizontal edge of the ribbon down to the bottom horizontal edge.Position the stitched top edge of the tulle against the fold crease inside the fold.

    • 5

Stitch the bottom edge of the ribbon and stitch the hooks on the ends of the ribbon. Set the ribbon against the fabric of the dress around your waistline by the small of your back.

    • 6

Align pins with the hooks on the ribbon and push them into the fabric of the dress.

    • 7

Pull the pins out and set them aside. Sew the eyes to the back of the dress by hand and push the hooks through the eyes.
