Things You'll Need
Instructions
Draw the entire shape of a proportionate female body in your sketch book from head to toe with a pencil.
Draw the waistline of the skirt where you want it to sit on the figure. Draw a line coming up from each end of the waistline and draw another line to connect these lines. This rectangle represents the rubber band waistband you will create later.
Measure your waistline and write this measurement above the waistband. Draw a series of short vertical lines under the bottom edge of the waistband to signify the bunched effect created by the rubber band inside the waistband. Measure around your hips.
Draw the sides of the skirt coming down from the waistband at a slight curve around the hips. Write the measurement for your hips where the line starts to curve.
Write "+ 2 inches" beside the measurement for your hips to help you remember the wider seam allowance you will leave when you sew the skirt later. All of your other seam allowances will be 5/8 inch which is the standard measurement.
Measure the length between your waist and the desired end of the skirt. Write this measurement on the side of the skirt and draw the lines however long you would like the skirt to be on the figure. Draw the hemline across the legs, between the ends of the side lines.
