Instructions

  1. Crib Sheet

    • 1

Pre-wash your fabric to allow for shrinkage.

    • 2

Remove the corners of the fabric by removing a 9-inch square of fabric from each of the corners of your 70-inch by 45-inch rectangle.

    • 3

Bring the two edges of fabric together from where the square was removed. Sew the edges together with the sewing machine. Stitch the areas twice to provide greater strength.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 for each of the remaining three corners.

    • 5

Turn the edges under ¼-inch all the way around the crib sheet. Stitch the entire length around the sheet.

    • 6

Center the elastic on a corner seam. Stitch the elastic in place.

    • 7

Use a zigzag stitch to sew the elastic on the folded up edge of the crib sheet. Remember to stretch the elastic as you sew.

    • 8

Place your newly made fitted crib sheet on your crib mattress.

    Crib Skirt

    • 9

Measure the width of the crib on each of the four sides. Measurements should be against the outside of the crib, between the legs.

    • 10

Measure from the crib mattress frame down to the floor on each of the four sides. These measurements will be the finished size of the crib skirt pieces.

    • 11

Cut fabric pieces out for each side of the crib. Add 1 inch to each of the four sides of fabric for the hem.

    • 12

Place the fabric on an ironing board, right side down. Place the iron-on adhesive along the top edge, ½- inch from the edge. Use a hot iron and run it over the paper side of the iron-on adhesive for three to four seconds. You will feel the adhesive side begin to adhere to the fabric.

    • 13

Wait until the adhesive strip has cooled. Peel off the paper. Fold the edge of the fabric over the iron-on adhesive. Use the iron again and go over the folded edge for a few seconds until the adhesive has adhered.

    • 14

Repeat Step 5 on the bottoms and sides of each of the fabric panels. Leave the top edges raw.

    • 15

Attach the side panels to the metal edges of the metal spring frame on the crib by using Velcro squares spaced evenly along the metal bars and matching up to Velcro strips on the fabric panel raw edges. The use of Velcro will allow the skirt to be altered easily when the crib mattress frame is lowered as baby grows.
