How to Sew Pants for Plus Size Women

      Visit your local fabric retailer and purchase a plus size pattern, a zipper and the fabric you wish to use for your pants. Simplicity offers a wide range of style options in plus size patterns,

      Put the fabric on a large, flat surface and place the front and back pieces of the pattern on top of the fabric. Secure the pattern to the fabric with straight pins.

      Cut around the pattern carefully and precisely with your sewing scissors. Remove the pins from the fabric and place the pattern to one side.

      Place one piece of fabric on top of the other and match each edge on the front piece of the pants to its corresponding edge on the back piece of the pants.

      Pin the side seams of the front and back of the pants together using straight pins. Leave a gap at the top of the left side seam for the zipper. Pin the inner leg seams together using straight pins.

      Pin the zipper to the fabric using your straight pins.

      Set your sewing machine to a long stitch and baste the side seams and the inner leg seams of the pants together.

      Try the pants on. If necessary, make slight adjustments to the placement of the sewing pins to improve the fit on your body. Remove the basting stitches.

      Sew the side seams together with your sewing machine. Sew the inner leg seams together with your sewing machine. Sew slowly and remove the pins as you go.

      Turn the pants inside-out. Fold the fabric allocated for the waistband inside the pants and pin in place using straight pins.

      Fold half an inch of fabric inside the pants at the bottom of each pant leg and pin into place to create a hem.

      Sew around the waistband of the pants with your sewing machine. Sew around the bottom of each pant leg. Sew slowly and remove the pins as you go.
