How to Make a Rug Braiding Stand

Sit comfortably and ergonomically when braiding rugs with the assistance of a braiding stand. A rug braiding stand is a wooden stand to which strands of rug material are secured. The strands are secured at a comfortable height, allowing the worker to braid faster and for longer periods of time. Build your own rug braiding stand by using a few pieces of wood, wood screws and screw-hooks. A stand like this is very simplistic in design and can be built in minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Pine board, 4-by-4 inches
  • Miter saw
  • 4 pine boards, 1-by-4-by-12 inches
  • Screw gun
  • 16 wood screws, 3-inch
  • 3 screw-hooks, 1/2-inch

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the 4-by-4-inch pine board at a desired height. The height of your diaphragm is a good reference point when sitting up straight.

    • 2

Position the 4-by-4-inch board so it is upright and perpendicular to the ground. Screw a 12-inch board to the bottom of the 4-by-4-inch board by using four screws for each board. One edge of each board is flush with the edges of the 4-by-4-inch board and their bottom 12-inch edges are flush with the end of the 4-by-4-inch board. These are the feet to your rug braiding stand.

    • 3

Screw the three screw-hooks to the top of the stand, so they are spaced 1 inch apart from each other. Tie three strands of rug material to the screw-hooks to begin braiding.
