How to Make a Snap Wallet

It defeats the point of buying a wallet to hold your money if you spend all your money to buy one. Instead, try making your own snap wallet. Snap wallets are inexpensive and secure the wallet from opening. Choose your own fabric from a variety of colors and textures from the local fabric store. There are also a plethora of snaps available to add that extra style point onto your new wallet.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and mark the fabric using a ruler and clothing chalk. For reference, measure the fabric to the dimensions of 4 inches by 8 inches. Cut the piece of fabric along the chalk outlines. Use fabric shears.

    • 2

Fold one end of the fabric piece 3 inches over the base of the fabric piece. The fold makes a 3-inch pouch. Iron the folded end. Fold the opposite end of the fabric piece 2 inches over the pouch, which is the lip. Iron the lip over the pouch.

    • 3

Insert the capped prong of the snap into the top of the snap fastener. Insert the open prong of the snap into the bottom of the snap fastener.

    • 4

Put the lip in between the snap fastener. Position the snap in the center of the lip. Place the exterior side of the lip toward the capped prong end of the fastener. Face the interior side of the lip toward the open prong end of the fastener. Squeeze the ends of the fastener to secure the snap in place.

    • 5

Close the lid of the wallet onto the interior pouch fabric. Mark the position of the snap of the lid, using clothing chalk. The lid snap and pouch snap must align.

    • 6

Insert the socket of the snap into the top of the snap fastener. Insert the stud of the snap into the bottom of the snap fastener.

    • 7

Put the interior pouch fabric between the snap fastener. Place the snap on the marked area. Face the exterior side of the pouch toward the socket end of the fastener. Position the interior side of the lip toward the stud end of the fastener. Squeeze the ends of the fastener to secure the snap in place.

    • 8

Sew the sides of the pouch together using a sewing machine. Use a thread and needle if a sewing machine is not available. You are now ready to use your snap wallet.
