How to Make a Fleece Sleep Sack

A sleep sack may be used outside a sleeping bag, inside a sleeping bag or alone. Some hostels require their guests to use a sleep sack between their sleeping bag and the hostel's bedding to keep road dirt off their bedding. A sleep sack is also a great extra layer inside a sleeping bag to add warmth and reduce the need to launder the bag. Use the sack alone on mild nights.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of fleece 1 inch wider and longer than the desired dimensions of the sack. If the sack will be used on the outside of a sleeping bag, cut the fleece 4 inches longer and wider than the bag. Cut it the same length as the bag, and 3 inches narrower if it is to be used inside the bag.

    • 2

Cut a rectangle for the top of the sack, 12 inches shorter than the first rectangle.

    • 3

Pin the top of the sack to the bottom, with the side and bottom edges aligned.

    • 4

Set the sewing machine to sew a straight stitch with a standard stitch length. Sew the top of the sack to the bottom by sewing 1/2 inch from the side and bottom edges. Leave one short edge open.
