Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the distance around your waist, then add 15 inches; call this measurement A. Measure the distance from your waist to the position where you want the hem of the skirt to land; call this measurement B.
Cut three pieces of T-shirt fabric that measure 1/3 of A in width by B in height.
Position two of your T-shirt pieces together with the front sides facing. Sew a zigzag stitch with your sewing machine or a whipstitch by hand to attach the two pieces together along one B side. Place the third piece of fabric over one of these as well with right sides facing. Sew along the B side again so you have one long strip with all three pieces connected.
Cut a skirt tie out of the remaining T-shirt fabric. Cut several strips that are each 8 inches wide and as long as you can make them, then sew them together on the short edges to make one long belt. The total length of the belt needs to be two times the width of the top edge of your skirt.
Fold the belt in half lengthwise and sandwich the top edge of the skirt in the center portion of the belt. Pin this in place and sew along all the raw edges of the belt to secure it together and hold it onto the skirt.
Determine which panel will be the one that shows in front of your skirt and which one will wrap underneath. Cut a small slit in the top side of the front panel, just near where it connects to the back panel and just below the belt.
Wrap the skirt around your body with the center panel at the back portion of your waist. Bring the hidden panel around the front and poke the strap attached on that side through the slit you cut in the previous step. Wrap the front panel around your body and bring the ties to meet on that side of the skirt, tying them together to wear it.
