Things You'll Need
Instructions
Wash, dry and press all fabric before making your tablecloth to prevent any shrinking or warping after you make it.
Measure the diameter of the table and the drop you would like for the tablecloth. The drop is how far down you would like the tablecloth to hang. Multiply the drop by two, add it to the diameter and add one inch for the hem to determine the correct amount of fabric. For example, if your table is 50 inches in diameter and you want it to drop four inches, add the diameter (50) to the drop x 2 (8) and one inch (1) to get a 59-inch diameter.
Measure, mark and cut the fabric. Fold the fabric in half and fold it in half again, creating a square 1/4 the size of the extended fabric. Wrap a long piece of string around the fabric pen a few times, tying it in a knot if desired. Extend the string the distance of one side of the fabric. This distance also equals 1/2 of your diameter. Cut the string. Hold the string in the corner crease where all fabric is folded together and while holding the string in place, sweep the pen across the fabric like a compass, marking your circle perfectly. Cut along the line through all layers of fabric slowly and deliberately to avoid mistakes or jagged lines. This method ensures all parts of the circle are an equal length from the center.
Press and hem the fabric. Fold the fabric under 1/2 inch and press with your iron. Add the hemming tape to the fold and fold another 1/2 inch over the hemming tape. Press with the iron, slowly going all the way around the hem.
