Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure and record the dimensions of the tablecloth. This will help with proportion when you are deciding how much fabric to remove.
Place the tablecloth on the table and determine what style of tablecloth you want.
Measure and mark the amount of fabric you need to remove from the cloth. The amount removed should be in inch or half inch amounts to keep the marking and cutting straight and even. Add one additional inch to your measurement on all sides to account for hemming.
Use your fabric pen to mark small lines or dots every few inches to help guide you when you cut the fabric. Cut the fabric according to your measurements.
Fold, press and pin the tablecloth. Fold the tablecloth a 1/2 inch and press the fabric with an iron to make a crease. Fold the tablecloth another 1/2 inch and press again. Pin the fabric every few inches to keep it in place when sewing.
Hem the tablecloth. Stitch the fabric together using a straight stitch on your sewing machine. Remove the pins right before your stitch that piece of fabric. If hemming a square tablecloth, when you reach the end of one side of the tablecloth, lift the presser food and turn it 90 degrees and place the presser foot back down on the adjacent unfinished edge and continue sewing the tablecloth. When you finish hemming all sides of the tablecloth, back stitch a few stitches to secure the thread and keep it from unraveling.
