How to Make Beaded Bobby Socks

Jangly, dangly beads are a festive addition around the edge of the cuff on bobby socks. Bobby socks have a turned-down cuff that is a great place to add trim. Use white beaded trim on white socks for socks that will go with any outfit, or match the beads to the sock color to make socks in an accent color. For a unified look, trim your socks with the same beaded trim you use to dress up a garment.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold the cuff of a bobby sock with a single fold. Gently stretch the top edge of the sock and measure the stretched edge. Add 1 inch to this measurement.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of beaded fringe trim this length. Beaded fringe trim has a ribbon header with strings of beads hanging from it to form a fringe.

    • 3

Pin the ribbon at the top of the trim around the top of the sock. Start on the inside of the ankle and stretch the edge of the sock to fit the trim. Pin it on the outside of the sock. The edge of the ribbon closest to the beads should be slightly below the top edge of the sock, with the beads sticking up above the edge of the sock.

    • 4

Fold under the last 1/2 inch of the ribbon to form a finished edge and lap it over the first end of the ribbon by 1/2 inch.

    • 5

Sew both the top and bottom edges of the trim to the sock. Use a straight stitch and thread that matches the sock.

    • 6

Refold the sock so that the ribbon is hidden and the beads hang down. Trim the other sock in the same way.
