Instructions

    • 1

Purchase two oversized T-shirts with your favorite sports team logo. Remove the neckbands, and sleeves with a seam ripper. Let out the bottom seams. Turn each shirt inside out.

    • 2

Lay one shirt flat on a self healing mat and iron it. Position a rotary guide across the top of the shirt two inches above the logo. Using a rotary cutter, remove the portion of the shirt above the guide. Reposition the rotary guide and remove the curved sides of the shirt.

    • 3

Pin along the sides and sew the shirt back together using a 1cm seam allowance. Open the seam and press it flat. Fold the top down 2cm to allow for an elastic casing, then iron it down. Sew around the shirt, leaving a small opening where you can feed the elastic through.

    • 4

Measure around the top of your bust with a piece of elastic and cut it to size. The elastic should be loose and comfortable. Repeat this process under your bust. Put a safety pin on the end of one piece and feed it through the top casing on the dress. Sew the ends together and slip it inside the casing.

    • 5

Lay out the second T-shirt on a flat surface. Cut two, 4-inch wide bands. Separate each band to form long strips, then sew the two together, using a straight stitch to make a ruffle. Hem the bottom 1cm.

    • 6

Put the ruffle inside the shirt so that right sides are facing. Align the seams of the ruffle with the seams of the shirt and insert a pin. Pin along the ruffle, making pleats to gather the fabric. Sew around the ruffle to attach it to the shirt. Stretch the fabric as you sew. Pull the ruffle out of the shirt and iron the seam flat.

    • 7

Cut the two neckbands in half to make straps. Try the dress on inside out and position the straps where you want them. Pin them in place. Draw a line with chalk under your bust. Pin the second piece of elastic along that line.

    • 8

Sew the elastic to the jersey, stretching it taunt as you go. If the elastic isn't stretched as it's sewn, the dress won't fit correctly. Embellish the dress with the extra logo, a pocket, or bows cut from the remaining T-shirt material.
