How to Make a Bow for a Hair Band

A polka dot bow on a narrow hair band is cute on a little girl. A black satin bow on a thin hair band creates the same effect as a fascinator hat, so it is a nice little finishing touch for any woman. These bows are inexpensive and they only take a few minutes to make, so you can have a whole wardrobe of bow hair bands.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a strip of fabric 5 inches wide and 11 inches long.

    • 2

Lay the strip on the table right side up with the short edges on the sides. Fold the the strip in half by bringing the top edge down to the bottom edge.

    • 3

Sew the long edges of the strip together by stitching 1/2 inch from the edge. Turn the resulting tube right side out.

    • 4

Flatten the strip so that the seam runs down the center and iron it flat.

    • 5

Lay the strip on the table with the seam up. Fold the end of the strip to the middle and overlap them 1 inch to make the loops of the bow.

    • 6

Cut a 4-inch square of fabric and lay it right side down on the ironing board. Fold the sides of the square to the middle, overlapping them 1 inch. Iron the folds.

    • 7

Place the bow on the hair band. Wrap the folded strip tightly around the center of the bow and the headband. Fold under the end 1/2 inch to make a finished edge. Sew the folded end down with a needle and thread.
