Non-skid slippers
Trace your feet on a piece of cardboard and cut out these templates. Insert each template into a sock and smooth the fabric over it.
Paint dots, lines or other patterns with fabric paint on the sole of each sock. The template keeps the sock stretched enough to paint on, and prevents paint from soaking through.
Allow the paint to dry. Your socks are now non-skid slippers. The paint prevents you from slipping as you could in plain socks when walking on smooth surfaces.
Slip-on slippers
Trace each of your feet on a piece of cardboard. Trace around the top of your toes, rather than between each one. Make another outline 1/4 inch wider than the actual outline of your foot and cut around this line. These are the soles of your slippers. The hard cardboard side is the bottom and the stuffed part is the top, where your foot will go.
Slip each of the cardboard soles into an ankle sock. Stuff the sock with fiberfill. Place the fiberfill under the cardboard, or fill the part of the sock with the heel. Fill until firm, but not over filled. Fold under the ankle opening and sew closed by hand or with a sewing machine.
Cut the foot off each of two knee socks. You will be working with the straight tubes that are left. Lay one tube over the top of your foot. This is the top of the slipper, so position it accordingly. Cut so you have a tube that reaches from the floor on one side of your foot to the floor on the other side.
Use a basting stitch to secure the center top of the toe to the center top of the sole of the slipper. Hand sew the top of the slipper to the sole on one side and around the toe, and across the other side, leaving a 2-inch opening. Stuff fiberfill in the opening, sew closed and then sew to the sole of the slipper. Repeat with the other slipper.
