Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure the circumference of your teapot. Wrap your tape measure around the fullest part of the teapot. Add 2 inches, then divide the number by two. This will be the width of your fabric.
Measure the height of the teapot by spanning your tape measure from the bottom of the teapot to the top. Divide this number by two then add 2 inch to 3 inches. The extra inches allow seam space.
Using your measurements, create a "U" shape on a piece of tissue paper. This will be the pattern for your tea cozies. Cut out the pattern from the tissue paper.
Use the pattern to cut out pieces from the fabric, liner and batting. Secure the pattern in place on the fabric with sewing pins to help hold the pattern in place while you cut. Cut out two pieces of fabric, liner and batting.
Layer the liner, batting and fabric. You should have two stacks when finished. Use sewing pins to pin the stacks together. Place the stacks fabric to fabric side together. When you pin, don't pin the top, just around the sides and round bottom.
Measure the spout opening and handle of your teapot. Add 1/2 inch to provide room for error. Mark these openings on your pinned fabric. You will not sew in these areas. These will be left open so you can slide the spout and handle through.
Sew a stitch along the edges of the tea cozy, making sure to leave the top and spout and handle openings unstitched. Remove the pins.
Create a cinch top on your tea cozy. Using a ruler, mark two parallel lines 1/2 inch apart near the top of the tea cozy. Sew a stitch along each line. Thread a piece of ribbon through the pocket created.
Turn your tea cozy right-side out. Tie a knot in each end of the ribbon and you are ready to show off your new cozy.
