Ball button
Make a loop with the cord from left to right so it ends up in front.
Loop the cord again in front of the first loop and place the braid in back of the starting end of the cord.
Continue looping the cording down and then up to enter the second loop from the front, but thread the cord under the cord from the first loop. The goal is to catch the downward part of the first loop. Then continue the cord over the second loop toward the left, through the first loop out the back.
Evenly tighten the cording to form a ball. Leave cording in the back to form the loops that attach the ball to the garment.
Decorative Loop
Lay the garment facing you with a piece of plastic or cardboard to separate the front from the back.
Slipstitch the ball button onto the edge of the garment that you want to close, leaving the cord for attaching to the garment.
Make an overhand loop with the cord, at the bottom, with the cord underneath, next to the button. Pin it so it won't move during the subsequent steps.
Make a sideways loop with the cord crossing on top and pin down.
Make the top loop, ending underneath, and pin. Cut the end and slipstitch it securely under the button.
Make a similar decorative loop arrangement on the other side of the garment, but leave a loop to hook the button, instead of having a button.
