Things You'll Need
Instructions
Purchase the fabric and trumpet skirt pattern at your local fabric store. Patterns come in different sizes and the size you select will indicate how much fabric you need to use.
Lay the fabric out on a clean, flat work surface and place the pattern pieces on top of the fabric. Pin the pattern pieces in place and trace the outline of the pieces onto the fabric. Remove the pattern paper from the fabric.
Cut the pattern pieces following the outline you just traced. You should have six long pieces of fabric and six triangular pieces.
Lay the fabric "wrong" side down and pin the long pieces of fabric together. Lay the triangular pieces on top of the bottom side seams of the long fabric and remove just enough pins from the side seams so that each triangular piece can fit in between the two long pieces of fabric next to it.
Set the triangular pieces to the side and sew the long pieces of fabric together all along the pins to create "tube" portion of your skirt.
Pin the triangular pieces to the bottom area where you left an opening for them. Pin them points up, on the bottom section of each strip of long fabric. Sew the pieces onto the skirt and turn the skirt inside out.
Hem the skirt by folding the fabric at the bottom of the skirt upwards and back. Pin the fabric in place and sew along the edge of the pins to finish your skirt. You can wear short dancer's tights under your skirt for more coverage.
