How to Make Seats for Outside Chairs

Instead of throwing your used outdoor furniture away, make weatherproof seat covers for a new look. When choosing the fabric for your seats, make sure it is made for outdoor use. Making outdoor seat covers can be fun and inexpensive.

Outdoor fabric
Foam padding
Measuring tape
Scissors
Craft knife/box cutter
Pins
Sewing machine
Needle
Thread

  Measure the seat of the chair with a measuring tape and write the measurements down on a piece of paper. Take those measurements and measure a piece of foam. Mark the measurements on the foam and cut it out with a knife. Set this aside.

  Fold your outdoor fabric in half, and measure the fabric so that it measures one inch longer and one inch wider than your foam. Cut out the fabric. You should have two, same-sized pieces of fabric.

  Pin the right sides of the fabric together and sew three of the sides together with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, leaving one side open. Turn the cover right side out.

  Through the open side, put the foam into the cover. Adjust the padding so it fits snugly. Sew the opening closed. You now have a finished seat cover for your chair.
