Lay the piece of paper on the material and pin it in place. Then cut the material, starting 1/4 inch away from the paper, and go all the way around the paper.
Because fabric comes pre-folded from the bolt in a double layer, you now have two pieces of fabric.
Separate the fabric pieces and fold each piece over the long way so you have two folded pieces of fabric that are about 6 inches by 8 inches and have the "right" sides out.
Take one of the folded pieces of fabric and pin the bias binding all around the edge. Sew the binding in place.
You have now made the "mat." Set this aside while you work on the pocket.
Pin then sew the bias binding on the folded edge of the other piece of fabric.
Pin the gathered end of the pocket to one of the the narrow ends of the mat and then pin the sides in place along the sides of the mat. Adjust the gathers so they are almost centered or even across the entire short end, and then sew in place.
Finish making the catcher by pinning the remaining bias binding in place where the pocket meets the mat, and then sew in place.
Clean up any loose threads, backtack any loose seams and you are ready for the final step.
Leaving the Velcro stuck together, peel adhesive backing and place one dot on each corner on the opposite end of the mat. Put your Velcro on the same face-up side as the pocket. Press the dots firmly into place.
Peel remaining backing off the dots and slide the mat under your machine, positioning it where it is comfortable for you.
Press the mat in place. Remove the mat by unhooking the Velcro from itself and stitch the dots into place for reinforcement.
Reposition the mat under your serger.
Sew a running stitch along the opposite end (bottom), making sure to go through both layers and gently gather. This is the pocket, and it is ready to set on the mat.
