How to Sew a Corset Belt

A corset belt, or waist cincher, is the perfect way to add a bit of old-fashioned glamour to any outfit. Unfortunately, corset belts can be hard to find in stores. If you do find one, you might not be able to find the right size. Waist cinchers are best when they are custom made to fit your exact size. With some common materials and basic sewing skills, it is simple to make your own corset belt or waist cincher right from home.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out two pieces of fabric that are each 5 inches wide and just long enough to wrap around your waist. Do not add any seam allowance to the fabric̵2;you want the belt to fit snugly.

    • 2

Lay the two fabric pieces directly on top of each other, right sides together. Sew the fabric together all the way around, leaving a 1-inch opening on one of the edges.

    • 3

Turn the belt right side out using the 1-inch opening. Iron the corset belt flat and sew the 1-inch opening closed.

    • 4

Put grommets into the short edges of the belt, following the instructions on the grommet packaging. Space the grommets a half-inch apart.

    • 5

Cut a piece of corset lacing that is 26 inches long and lace it through the grommets.
