Choose your fabric. In ancient Egypt, the Egyptians used linen (and sometimes wool) to make clothes. The upper classes preferred very light, very fine linen, while the lower classes made do with thicker fabrics that were more uneven. Look for fabric that is as white as possible.
Double up your fabric and lay it on the floor or on your cutting table.
Measure around your body directly under your armpits.
Measure the distance from your armpit down to your ankles.
Draw a large trapezoid on your fabric with chalk. Make the top of the trapezoid, the shorter side, equal to the measurement taken around your body, divided by two. Make the height of the trapezoid the distance from your armpit to your ankles. The length you make the bottom of the trapezoid depends on how flowing you want the skirt of the tunic to be. Ancient Egyptian tunics can be fairly narrow or very wide at the bottom.
Cut the fabric along the chalk lines. You now have two trapezoids.
Sew the trapezoids up along their diagonal sides.
Hem the tunic along the top edge and the bottom edge.
Slide the tunic over your head.
Measure the distance from the top edge of the tunic in the center of your chest to the edge of the tunic on the back edge, near your shoulders.
Add 2 inches to that measurement.
Cut two straps the same length of the measurement you just calculated. Make the straps about 2 inches wide.
Hem the edges of the straps.
Sew one end of a strap to the center front of your tunic, and then bring the second end of the strap over your shoulder, securing it in the back.
Repeat step 14 for the other strap.
Try on your ancient Egyptian tunic. If it is too wide, you can pinch the fabric at the top of the tunic and sew it flat.
Tie your cloth belt around your waist.
