Spread the Lycra fabric on a flat surface. Lay down an old swimsuit on top of the fabric and cut around it, adding 1 inch all around for seam allowance.
Turn the old swimsuit over to the other side and lay it on the Lycra again. Cut around the swimsuit once more, again adding 1 inch all around for seam allowance. You should now have a front piece and a back piece for your swim suit.
Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time cutting out a back and front piece out of the lining material.
Lay the front lining piece directly on top of the front Lycra piece, with the right sides of the fabric together. Sew the two pieces together all the way around, leaving a 3-inch opening.
Turn the piece right side out, using the 3-inch opening. Sew the 3-inch opening closed.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the back Lycra and lining pieces.
Lay the lined front piece directly on top of the lined back piece, Lycra sides together. Sew the front and back pieces together, leaving collar, arm holes and leg holes open.
