How to Sew a Satin Throw Blanket

A good throw blanket is always nice to have around, especially in a room that is particularly drafty. Throw blankets also can add a touch of class and decor to a room when casually slung over a sofa or chair. A satin throw blanket adds even more to this look. Unfortunately, throw blankets can be rather expensive to buy in stores. However, as long as you have basic sewing skills and supplies, you can make your own satin throw blanket for a fraction of the cost. Plus, you'll be able to personalize it any way you want.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out two pieces of satin and a piece of quilt batting that are each 1 yard by 2 yards. Lay the two satin pieces directly on top of each other, right sides together. Lay the quilt batting directly on top of the satin pieces.

    • 2

Pin all three layers of fabric together all around the edges. Sew the satin and batting together all around the edges, taking the pins out as you go. Leave an opening of about 6 inches.

    • 3

Using the 6-inch opening, turn the blanket right-side-out. Pin the opening closed and hand-sew it, taking the pins out as you go.

    • 4

Tuft the blanket every 6 inches width wise and length wise. To form a tuft, pull a piece of thread through all three layers of the blanket, leaving a 4-inch thread tail. Bring the thread back up through all three layers of fabric, leaving another 4-inch tail. Tie the two thread tails together.
