How to Make a Stuffed Toy for a Keychain

Most everyone knows key chains are made to hold keys. They wouldn't be called key chains if they weren't. But what fun are those key holders if you can't hang your little trinkets and stuffed toys on them? You can find all sorts of toys to put on your key chain in stores, but if you want to create your own, you can do that too. Follow these instructions to learn how.

  • Piece of white paper, 3 inches by 3 inches Pencil Two pieces of orange fabric, about 3 inches by 3 inches Small piece of black felt Thread to match the fabric Shredded foam stuffing 2-inch cord or piece of ribbon Scissors Sewing needle Straight pin Hot glue gun

Instructions

    • 1

Draw an outline of a goldfish on the white piece of white paper.

    • 2

Cut it out along the lines drawn.

    • 3

Place the paper on top of the two pieces of orange fabric (the right sides of the fabric should be facing each other), and pin in place with the straight pin.

    • 4

Cut the fabric along the outline of the fish.

    • 5

Remove the straight pin and the white piece of paper.

    • 6

Fold the cord, or ribbon, in half and insert the looped end in between the two pieces of fabric so that the ends of the cord, or ribbon, are flush with the edge of the fabric.

    • 7

Push the straight pin into the fabric and through the cord, or ribbon, to hold it all in place.

    • 8

Using the needle and thread, sew along the edges of the fabric, about ¼ inch from the edge. Make the stitches small, and leave a 1-inch space open at the bottom for insertion of the foam stuffing.

    • 9

Turn fish so that the stitches are on the inside and not visible.

    • 10

Stuff the fish with the foam stuffing and stitch the opening closed.

    • 11

Cut two tiny circles out of the black felt for fish eyes.

    • 12

Using the hot glue gun, glue the black felt fish eyes to the fish.
