Instructions
Making Block A
Cut out your pieces. For each block cut one 4 ½-inch square out of dark blue. Cut two 3 ¾-inch squares out of white fabric. Cut the squares on the diagonal to make four half-square triangles. From the dark blue fabric cut two 4 7/8-inch squares. Cut these on the diagonal to make four half-square triangles.
Sew one white triangle on each side of the dark blue square. It's best if you do opposite sides first then do the remaining two sides. Iron the square flat.
Repeat the same process to add four dark blue triangles around each side. Iron again. This completes block A.
Making Block B
Cut one 3 3/8-inch square for each block out of dark blue fabric. Cut two 2 7/8-inch squares from light blue fabric. Cut these squares along the diagonal to make four half-square triangles.
Stitch one light blue triangle to each side of the dark blue square. Repeat this process to make four B blocks.
Press with a hot iron on the wrong side of the block.
Making Block C
Cut eight triangles with a 4 ¾-inch base and 5-inch legs out of the dark blue fabric. Cut four rectangles that are 3 ¾ inches by 4 ½ inches from the white fabric. Cut four more of these rectangles from the light blue fabric. Cut these on the diagonal to make triangles.
Sew two of the dark blue triangles together at the base to form a diamond. Make four of these.
Add two white triangles to one side of each diamond section. Add two light blue triangles to the other side of the diamond section.
Iron flat. This completes block C.
Constructing the Storm at Sea Block
Take one block A and add one block C to opposite sides.
Sew block B to both ends of the two remaining C blocks. Pin these to the opposite sides of the block AC combination, matching up the seams.
Iron on the wrong side of the block. This makes one whole block for the Storm at Sea quilt. Repeat all the steps to make as many block as you need for the size quilt you desire.
Layer your top, batting and backing fabric together. Sew the layers together to finish your quilt.
