  Shop for a pattern that will work for sweater knit fabric. There are a number of patterns to choose in the pattern books at the fabric stores.

  While at the fabric store select the sweater knit fabric and all the notions you will need to finish your project.

  Wash according to the fabric instructions. After washing, lay the pattern on the sweater knit fabric. Take the time to make sure your scissors are very sharp. This will make sure to not snag your sweater knit.

  Use the correct sewing machine needle, here are a few suggestions. Universal-H point, ballpoint (SUK) and stretch (HS). Sizes will range from 60/8 to 90/14. The actual size will depend on the weight of your sweater knit fabric.

  As you began to set up your sewing machine, do a test sample to make sure the machine is sewing your seams correctly. Remember to engage your sewing machine’s feed dogs.

  Take the extra step to press your seams lightly to give more of a professional look to your finished garment.
