Instructions

    • 1

Locate where to position the button. If the button just fell off your shirt, you can probably still see the holes.

    • 2

Cut off about 24 inches of thread. Thread it into the needle. Double the thread and tie a knot in the end of it.

    • 3

Insert the needle under the fabric where you wish to place the button. Come out on the front of the garment and take a small stitch and bring the needle back to the front of the garment. Hold the button in one hand while you run the needle through one of the holes on the button with the other hand.

    • 4

Bring the needle and thread back down through the other hole and bring it out on the back of the fabric.

    • 5

Slip the straight pin between the button and the top stitch on the button you just made. Pull the thread tight to hold the pin in place.

    • 6

Continue to work the needle and thread through the hole(s) until you have at least three stitches in each hole. Bring the needle out underneath the button but not through the fabric on the last stitch. Remove the straight pin.

    • 7

Wrap the thread three times around the stitches to form a shank under the button. Bring the needle back through the back of the fabric. Take two small stitches to tie off your work. Cut your thread.
