Things You'll Need
Instructions
Measure your waist, hips and the length you want the skirt to be.
Lay out your fabric and cut two panels for the skirt (one front and one back) conforming to your measurements. Be sure to have about 3 extra inches in length for the hems and and 3 or 4 extra inches in the sides to accommodate darts.
Pin the two panels together, pinning a zipper into one side. Also pin two triangular darts into both panels. The back darts should be slightly larger than the front darts, but hold the panel up to your body to get an estimation of how large the darts need to be.
Sew the edges of the skirt together. Take care on the zipper edge to get as close to the zipper as possible without sewing over the plastic of the zipper.
Sew down the darts. First, sew vertically between the triangular fold and the rest of the skirt. Then, you can flatten the fabric against the main panel and sew the top of it down to the skirt.
Sew the waistline. Double check against your waist to make sure that the darts are the correct size and that the waistline will fit. As you sew it down, make sure that the waistline is flush with the top of the zipper.
Add a small hook-and-eye closure above the zipper for a neater look.
Hem the skirt to the desired length, hemming twice for the cleanest finish.
