How to Calculate Cubic Inches for Port Flow

The port flow, or cylinder head, of the exhaust system allows air to travel into the combustion chamber and exhaust to flow out. The size of the port flow will affect your overal performance and efficiency. In general, the larger the port flow, the greater you performance will be.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the interior diameter of the port flow in inches.

    • 2

Divide the diameter in half to get the radius. For example, if the diameter was 20 inches, you would have a 10-inch diameter.

    • 3

Multiply the radius by itself. If the radius was 10 inches, you would multiply 10 by 10 to get 100 inches.

    • 4

Multiply the product by the interoir height of the port flow. If the height was 10, you would multiply it by 100 to get 1,000.

    • 5

Multiply the new product by 3.14. This will give you the total cubic inches for the port flow. If the product was 1,000, for example, you would have a port flow of 3,140 inches.
