Instructions for the Magic Folding Dollar

Dollar bill magic tricks are a popular form of parlor magic as the supplies are easy to carry and can be performed in a small space without requiring the stage area of larger set piece magic tricks. The self-folding dollar illusion displays an unfolded bill to the patrons watching, then after the magic words or actions are performed, the bill slowly but steadily folds itself over once, again and a third time, until it is folded into a small square.

Instructions

  Hold the bill with the president facing you and the bottom edge nearest you, then fold the left edge over to the right edge.

  Fold the bill in half again, folding the top edge down to the bottom edge.

  Fold the left edge over to the right edge again. All four corners of the unfolded bill will be in the lower right corner of the folded bill.

  Tie a knot in a piece of clear line or a thin string then pass the line through the eye of the needle.

  Poke the needle through the right corner nearest you, passing through both sides of the two folded sections in the corner, then through the corner of the top unfolded section. There will be three corners of the bill that are not punctured by the line. Remove the needle.

  Unfold the bill and lay it on your palm, with the upper left corner of the bill near your thumb and the line hanging through the fingers of the hand holding the bill.

  Fold the bill without touching it by pulling on the string with your free hand, causing it to fold the same sequence of folds that you made "on its own."
