Instructions
Measure out the dimensions on the 1" by 6" by 35" oak board with a tape measure. Use a pencil to mark the following measurements: two boards measuring 5/8" by 9.75" for the sides, two boards measuring 7.25" for the ends, one board measuring 9.75" for the bottom and a wooden dowel measuring 10.25" for the handle. On the boards being used for the ends, measure 3 7/8" up and then angle the top to form a triangle leaving 0.75" flat at the top to hold the dowel.
Cut the boards with a table saw according to the measurements.
Drill holes in the two main end and the bottom pieces of the tool box. Drill two holes on each end piece 2.75" up from the bottom on each side and one hole on the bottom middle measuring in 2.75" from each side. Lay the bottom piece flat and drill two holes on each long side centered at 4.75". Drill two holes in the end pieces, centered at the top on the inside of the board approximately 1/4" deep to hold the dowel.
Sand each piece until the edges are smooth and soft.
Apply wood glue to one of the end pieces on the edges that will be connecting to the sides and bottom piece. Attach one end piece to the sides and bottom using wood screws and the holes already drilled. Insert the doll rod into the hole at the top and apply glue to the end piece that was not previously used. Attach the other end piece to the box using wood screws. Be sure the dowel is in place before screwing it together.
Apply wood glue to the six screw holes around the outside of the tool box and insert the wooden plugs. Use the sandpaper and smooth out all edges and apply a coat of polyurethane to the box.
