Senior Citizens' Activities in New Hampshire

Given that it is one of the oldest and most historic states in the country, it is only fitting that New Hampshire also has a thriving senior citizen activity scene. From Portsmouth to Nashua to Pelham, New Hampshire boasts a number of different senior centers and senior-focused organizations that offer seniors a wide variety of activities and programs.
  1. Portsmouth Area

    • Located on Parrot Avenue Place in downtown Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities for a wide variety of senior interests. Activities range from traditional pursuits such as bingo, knitting and poker to newer interests such as tai chi and yoga. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesdays and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays. The Portsmouth Senior Center also hosts fitness classes three days a week, with activities that include strength training, stretching and aerobics.

    Nashua Area

    • The Nashua Senior Center is open for membership to adult over age 50, and offers numerous activities and trips that will suit seniors with a variety of backgrounds and interests. Activities include golf, bowling, billiards and snow-shoeing. The center's exercise regimen includes aerobics, yoga, tai chi and Pilates. Members also take trips to places such as the Foxwoods Resort Casino, the coast of Maine and museum and theaters in Boston. The Nashua Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Pelham Area

    • The Pelham Senior Center, located on Nashua Road, offers several weekly and monthly events, single and multi-day trips and other special events. Weekly events include shopping trips, candlepin bowling and bingo. Monthly events include day trips to the Foxwoods Resort Casino, book club meetings and Red Hat Society meetings. The center also does multi-day trips to Mackinac Island, an Alaskan cruise in September and a rail-and-sail in June. Special events include educational speakers, crafts and seasonal holiday meals.
