Things You'll Need
Instructions
Decide what kind of a skate park to build. You may prefer to make a skate park catering specifically to street skaters, and in that case you won't have many ramps. On the other hand, if you'd like to attract vertical skateboarders, you will need several ramps. You may prefer to create a park with a balance of both styles of skateboarding. In addition, decide whether you'll charge people for using the park or if you'll seek funding from other sources (e.g., city council, sponsors or non-profits).
Find a location for the skate park. Check out warehouse-type buildings, which will have the space required for a skate park. Seek a location with adequate parking and easy access to public transportation (some park users may be underage and unable to drive). In addition, contact city or county government offices, requesting information about zoning laws and property taxes the park may need to pay.
Hire an experienced skate park designer to help plan the park. A designer can take an idea and make it a reality. A skate park designer can map out the ramps and courses and give the skate park a functional flow.
Hire an architect and a crew for the construction of the park. The building crew will work with you and the designer to ensure the park is built to specifications and within a reasonable time frame.
Decide on building material. Concrete is smooth and easy to clean, and it's a good choice for the floor of the park. Ramps are best built from premium wood.
Spread the word among local skaters. Post fliers about your new park, and consider advertisements in newspapers, on radio and on television.
