Light Painting
Light painting is when you use very long shutter speeds--over 15 seconds--and a flash light to literally "paint" the scene. The camera will record the light as it travels across the lens. With this technique you can write graffiti, draw pictures, or illuminate just small portions of an object or scene.
Long Shutter
Night photography is a great way to show movement through the use of longer shutter speeds. Photographing a city scape and its streets will beautifully illuminate the buildings while showing the movement of the vehicle traffic using their headlights and taillights.
Zoom Effect
Zoom effect is when you start photographing a lit subject and then manually zoom in or out while the shutter is still open. The effect can be quite dramatic as it looks as though the light is exploding from the subject. Play with shutter speeds and the speed with which you zoom to achieve different effects.
