How to Catch a Lizard That You Lost in Your Home

Lizards are common reptiles found in warmer climates around the globe. Lizards vary widely in size depending on the type of lizard. The largest lizard is the Komodo monitor, which can grow as long as a human adult. The smallest lizard is the gecko. Lizards are unable to regulate their body temperature. Because of this, they may try to get inside houses when it is cold or very hot outside. You can usually find the lizard in your house, although catching it is difficult.

Instructions

    • 1

Search areas of your house that provide hiding spaces for a lizard. Lizards hide when scared, so check under furniture, behind appliances and in corners.

    • 2

Check your garage or utility room for your lizard. Most species of lizards feed on insects, so your lizard will hide where there is access to food.

    • 3

Look for the lizard near water sources. Lizards need access to water to survive but they do not require much. Check in your bathroom or in your kitchen.

    • 4

Check near any plants that you have in your house, whether they are real or fake. Real plants will provide a water supply for the lizard. The leaves also offer an excellent hiding space and a chance for the lizard to blend in.

    • 5

Catch the lizard once you find it. Corner the lizard if possible. Place a jar or glass over the lizard. Typically, the lizard will try to escape, running up the side of the jar. When it does, lift the jar, slightly, and slide a paper plate underneath. This will allow you to safely transport the lizard back outside.
