How to Convert a Rectangle Live Well Tank Into a Shad Tank

Converting a rectangular live well tank to a shad tank will save handy fishermen the hundreds of dollars it would cost to purchase a new shad tank. The project requires minimal knowledge of construction and is usually completed in a weekend, so you spend less time in the shop and more time on the lake. A converted tank allows fishing enthusiasts to take more live bait with them on a fishing excursion which improves the chance of bigger catches.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of the rectangular live well tank. Cut four squares of sheet metal to this dimension using a metal saw.

    • 2

Insert the sheet metal in each corner to convert the live well tank from a rectangular structure to a rounded tank and attach to the tank walls with silicon.

    • 3

Install the aerator pump on the floor of your tank. Many have suction cups attached so no adhesive is required and the pump is easily removed for cleaning.

    • 4

Fill the tank with water and add two heaping handfuls of salt prior to placing the shad inside.
