How to Get Rid of Scars on Dogs

It's not uncommon for dogs to receive wounds from allergies, accidents or fights with other animals; immediate treatment of these wounds is necessary to prevent infection and scarring. If a dog is bleeding from a wound or showing signs of an infection, immediately take the animal to a veterinarian for treatment. Once the dog's wound begins to heal, an owner can use natural products and medication to prevent and treat scars.

Treat dog scars topically with aloe vera and vitamin E. These ingredients are found in many balms and lotions, and they promote healing of wounds and scars. Apply aloe or vitamin E directly to the scar and, if necessary, cover the wound with a bandage to prevent the dog from licking or biting its skin.

Ask a veterinarian about a steroid, such as prednisone, to reduce inflammation of a wound and prevent pain and scarring.
