Things You'll Need
Instructions
Feed your dog nutrient-rich dog food that is high in protein. A dog's diet has an immediate influence on its outward appearance. It is always worth the extra cost to maintain the proper nutrition for your pet. Cheaper foods will not give the dog's coat the nutrients it needs to remain healthy and shiny.
Furnish your dog's normal diet with a nutritional supplement. These supplements are available at most pet stores and come in different forms such as liquids, powders and pills. Look for supplements labeled for the dog's skin and fur. Supplements are full of oils and nutrients that will give your dog's coat a natural glow.
Bathe your dog only once every couple of months. Although a bath seems the natural answer to a shiny coat, excessive bathing will actually dry out your dog's skin and coat, causing it to grow dull. Less-frequent bathing will allow natural oils to build in the skin and fur.
Spray your dog's coat and skin with a finishing spray after a bath. Buy the finishing spray at the groomer's or a pet store. Be aware that a finishing spray can never make up for a lack in a nutritional diet and will only alter the dog's appearance from the outside.
Groom your dog often with a brush. Brushing your dog's fur will stimulate the skin and follicles. As a result, natural oils will be released, causing the dog's coat to shine.
