Things You'll Need
Instructions
Choose a game feeder that releases food at timed intervals (self-timed). Bears are less likely to destroy these because timed feeders don't provide constant access to food.
Use a sturdy hanging rod with a hook, which many outdoor supply stores sell. The best choice for a hanging rod is one that is self-staking. These have spikes at the base that make the rods more stable when placed in the ground. The hanging rod should be at least 12 feet long, which will place it out of reach of most bears.
Dig a hole at least 4 feet deep and bury the hanging rod's stakes in the ground. The deeper the rod is buried, the more stable and bear-proof it will be. Tightly pack the dirt around the stake and shake the rod to test it for stability.
Hang the game feeder from the hook on the hanging rod. Ensure that the game feeder can't easily be knocked over by rattling the hanging rod.
