Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut two blocks of wood to a rectangular shape, using a handsaw. Use any wood, but make sure it is free of knots that may cause holes in the future. Each cut block should measure 4-by-2 inches.
Make a tiny groove on one side of each piece of cut wood. The groove should be about 1/8-inch deep and 1/8-inch wide. Use a drill bit or Phillips screwdriver for best results. The groove should extend from one end to the other end of one flat side of wood and should mimic a ditch.
Cut open a wide rubber band carefully so air can pass through, using a razor blade. Place the rubber band lengthwise in one of the grooves. Place the other block on top of the rubber band with the groove facing down. The rubber band should fit between the grooves. Make sure at least 1 inch of the rubber band hangs out from the groove so the bird call will work properly.
Align duct tape around each end of the blocks so they are secured together. Ensure the rubber band is placed under the tape so it is held in place. This will complete the bird call assembly.
Blow through the hole so air passes over the rubber band and makes the bird call sounds. To change sounds, pull on the rubber band. High-pitch sounds will require the rubber band to be pulled tighter while low-pitch sounds require less grip on the rubber band. Now that you have a device to make different sounds, you can attract species you may not have watched before.
