Using Existing Appliances
Set an old ice cream churner bucket on its side. Toss a maximum of 100 cases into the metal canister with an equal amount of cleaning medium. Close the lid on top of the metal canister and snap the ice cream churn motor to the bucket. Turn it on and let it spin for four hours. Check the cases to see if they are clean; if they are not, put them in again for another hour or two.
Fill a pillow case with half-cleaning medium and half spent casings. Tie a knot into the open end and toss into the clothes dryer on low heat. Add a couple of pillows to the load and turn on the dryer. After one hour, the cases should be clean. You can fit about 500 cases into a standard pillow case.
Fill an unused small cement mixer with up to 1,000 cases with an equal volume of cleaning medium. An unused cement mixer is capable of cleaning a large load of cases in two hours. It is important that the mixer be unused so that there are no chunks of dry cement inside.
Starting from Scratch
Remove the plastic casing from the car polisher. Discard the plastic casing and set aside the polisher.
Cut a six-inch circle out of the cutting board and drill a 1/2-inch hole in the center of that circle. This will be the base for the case tumbler bowl. Use a ruler and draw an "X" on the circle so that it is divided into four equally sized parts.
Measure one inch from the outside of the circle and make a mark on each line. Drill a 1/4-inch hole on each of those marks. Place one spring over each hole and use the nuts and bolts to hold the springs in place.
Secure the car polisher unit to the center of the cutting board between the springs. You can use the screw holes that held the plastic cover on it.
Invert the stainless steel bowl so that the bottom side is up. Set the cutting board and springs on top of the steel bowl. Use a sharpie and trace around where the springs meet the bowl.
Finishing Touches
Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the center of those marks on the stainless steel bowl. Place a fender washer over each hole and place each spring over the fender washer. Insert a bolt through the underside of the steel bowl and up through each of the four holes. Place a nut over each bolt and tighten by hand. This will keep the springs in place.
Invert the plastic bowl over the fiberboard and trace around the edge of the bowl with a pencil. Cut the fiberboard circle slightly larger than the lip of the plastic bowl.
Insert the head of the threaded rod into the center hole you drilled into the cutting board. Turn the plastic bowl over and insert the threaded rod end through the hole in the bowl. Place the rubber hose over the rod to prevent the cases from banging into the rod and becoming damaged. Place the fiberboard circle over the bowl so the last inch of the threaded bolt emerges from the top. Screw the wing nut to the threaded bolt to keep the fiberboard lid on the bowl.
Fill a bowl with cleaning medium of crushed walnut or corn cob pieces and the dirty casings. Plug the car polisher in and let the case tumbler clean your cases.
