How to Clean a Raccoon Latrine

Raccoons repeatedly go to the same location to relieve themselves, creating areas known as raccoon latrines. These latrines pile up with old and new feces. Not only do they have an unpleasant odor, they also present a risk of roundworm infection to anyone who comes in contact with them. If there is a raccoon latrine on your property, take steps to clean it up at once.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of latex gloves and rubber boots. This prevents contamination from contact with raccoon feces.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with water and lightly mist this area. This prevents dust and debris from the feces from flying up when you work.

    • 3

Use a shovel to lift the feces from the ground and into a plastic garbage bag. Move all of the raccoon feces from the ground to the garbage bag.

    • 4

Close the garbage bag securely by twisting the opening closed and securing it with a twist tie.

    • 5

Place the closed garbage bag in another garbage bag, also securing the second bag with a twist tie.

    • 6

Place the bag in a garbage can with a tightly fitting lid.
