How to Preserve a Scorpion

Scorpions are members of the Arachnida class, and like spiders and insects, they have a hard exoskeleton. This makes them ideal for preservation, either as a decorative object or as a display for a science class. If you have a scorpion that you want to preserve, use ethyl alcohol to keep it in a condition where it can be observed and enjoyed.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a dead scorpion in a jar that has a screw lid.

    • 2

Fill the jar slowly with 75 percent ethyl alcohol. If you do not have 75 percent alcohol on hand, you can dilute 100 percent ethyl alcohol by mixing it with water in a solution that is three parts ethyl alcohol and one part water.

    • 3

Screw the jar on the lid very tightly. The ethyl alcohol prevents the scorpion from rotting.
